Oval vs Pear Shape Diamond Comparison
The most expensive part of every diamond engagement ring is the center stone.Whenever we begin the design process with our clients, we work with them to narrow down the center stone shape and then ideal setting to suit it before moving any further in detail. Keep in mind that most people come in and do not know what center stone they'd like- it's normal to be between 2-4 stone shapes and only the good ol' process of elimination can determine which is going to be for you.
Both of these shapes have risen in popularity dramatically over the past few years as people are attracted to how much real estate it covers on the finger.
When you look at an oval cut diamond and a pear cut, it's easy to understand why one would be stuck between these shapes- they each have one round full end and shows a large spread while elongating the finger. When focusing on both the pear and oval, you want to pay more attention to the outline of the stone to ensure the shape is crisp and symmetrical- some prefer a more elongated pear or oval and some prefer a wider spreading belly of the stone which gives the finger more coverage east to west. Not only do these diamonds flatter the hand, but they also cost less per carat than the round brilliant diamond. One of the reasons for this price difference is because the pear and oval cut diamond does not have to be as precise as the round brilliant.
