Jewelry FAQ

Everything you need to know about fine jewelry, from gemstones to everyday care.

Can I design custom jewelry at Lauren B?

We can create almost any design you like based on the photos and ideas you provide. We will carefully review each detail to ensure you receive the perfect custom piece.

What types of gemstones does Lauren B use in their jewelry?

In our Natural Gems collection, we use natural diamonds and color gemstones. In our Lab Jewels collection, we use lab grown diamonds, and in LB Studio, we use natural melee diamonds.

What is the difference between fine jewelry and costume jewelry?

The main difference between fine jewelry and costume jewelry is the materials used. Fine jewelry is made from precious metals like gold, silver, and platinum, and features genuine gemstones. Costume jewelry is made from base metals and synthetic stones making it more affordable but less durable.

At Lauren B, all of our jewelry is made with 14 karat to 18 karat gold or platinum and natural or lab grown diamonds along with natural color gemstones.

What are some timeless jewelry pieces everyone should own?

There are five jewelry staples we believe everyone needs: a pair of diamond stud earrings, a diamond tennis bracelet, a pendant necklace, a pair of huggie hoop earrings, and/or a pair of diamond hoop earrings! While some of these pieces are more of an investment, start small and grow your collection with Lauren B.

What is a pendant?

A pendant is a piece of jewelry that hangs from a chain, typically worn around the neck. It can come in various shapes, sizes, and designs as well as gemstones.

What is a tennis bracelet?

A tennis bracelet is a distinct style of bracelet that gained popularity in 1978 when Chris Evert, a renowned tennis player, lost her diamond line bracelet during the US Open. She paused the match to search for it, calling the piece her "tennis bracelet," which led to the name's origin. A classic tennis bracelet features gemstones, typically diamonds, arranged in a continuous line around the wrist, in an "eternity" style.

What are the different types of earrings available?

We carry several different types of earrings including stud earrings, huggie hoops, hoop earrings of all sizes, drop earrings, and dangle earrings.

What metals are used in Lauren B jewelry?

With the exception of a few pieces, all of our fine jewelry is made with 14 karat white, yellow, and/or rose gold. A select few are made with 18 karat gold or platinum.

How can I clean my diamond jewelry?

If you can't visit our showroom for a cleaning, we recommend filling a bowl or another container with very warm water and adding a small amount of dish soap. Stir until the water is sudsy, then place your ring or other jewelry in the mixture and let it soak for 20-40 minutes. After soaking, gently brush away any dirt or grime with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Finally, rinse under warm water and dry with a microfiber or lint-free cloth.

Does Lauren B provide jewelry appraisals?

Yes, we will give you an appraisal completed by one of our gemologists. Your appraisal will include an estimated retail value of the item, as well as a written report stating the type, quality, and carat weight of the gemstone, along with the type of precious metal.
